Eight rebel returnees under military custody recently received financial assistance and food aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Capt. Orchie Bobis, the spokesperson of the 3rd Marine Brigade (3MBDe), said this came about as they continue to hold the best interest of the eight returnees under their care, including former top New People’s Army (NPA) leader Alimar Libuna Toting (Ka Allan).

She said former rebels (FRs) with families were also given P3,000 while those those with none were given P2,400. The amount was handed by DSWD Social Welfare and Development Team (SWADT) head Eric Aborot on November 20.

They were also given hygiene kits which they will get monthly with the food aid.

“The FRs received food packs and hygiene supplies from DSWD through the help of the 3MBDe. Nagbigay din sila ng financial assistance na P3,000 para doon sa may pamilya na nasa custody namin at P2,400 para naman doon sa solo lang na nandito,” Bobis said Saturday to Palawan News.

Bobis said the former rebels are doing well in their temporary holding center except for Melody Libuna Toting (Ka Honey/Hana) who has to be regularly monitored by her obstetrician because she is pregnant.

Melody did not know she was pregnant when she surrendered, Bobis said.

“Si Ka Honey ay mino-monitor regularly ng OB niya which is ‘yon ang wala sa kilusan. Meron din siyang mga vitamins. na iniinom para maalagaan ang baby niya. Ok sila lahat, ang need lang talaga nila sapat na pagkain, sapat na pagtulog, at maayos na matutuluyan,” she said.

The Totings surrendered early this month to the 3MBDe with Glenmar Libuna Toting (Ka Resmi), Jurin Libuna Aldea (Ka Wilme), and Soren Libuna Aldea (Ka Justine), who are squad members; Vicente Sonio Lachica (Ka Troy, Andre, Harold, and Rejon), who was the liaison officer; Arnold Atres (Ka Randy), and Janeth Ortega.
