The southwest monsoon intensified by the severe tropical storm Fabian and the typhoon ‘Cempaka’ outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring rains over the province of Palawan in the next 24 hours, said the state weather bureau in a forecast on Tuesday.
Aside from Palawan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said monsoon rains will also be experienced over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
The severe tropical storm was last located at 1,035 kilometers (km) east northeast of extreme northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 115 kph.
While typhoon ‘Cempaka’ outside PAR was estimated at 975 km west of extreme northern Luzon.
Fabian is forecast to further intensify and reach the typhoon category on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. It may reach its peak intensity at 150 kilometers per hour (kph).
Gradual weakening is expected on Friday evening or Saturday morning. Fabian may leave PAR on Saturday at 480 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, or in the vicinity of Taipei, Taiwan.
The sea conditions are rough to very rough condition with wave height at 2.5 to 4.5 meters.
PAGASA said that there is a possibility to increase a tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 1 over Babuyan and Batanes area.
