About 10,000 athletes, sports, and technical officials are expected to converge in Puerto Princesa City in August as it hosts the weeklong Batang Pinoy National Finals.

Atty. Gregorio Austria, city sports director, told Palawan News on Thursday that they already organized different committees to cover the various aspects of hosting the national sports event.

“May committee tayo sa transportation, security, at iba pa. Pipirmahan na lang ni mayor (Lucilo Bayron), darating si mayor ng Monday ‘yon ang information and then pagkatapos noon, magsisimulang magsigalawan na ito. Ibig sabihin lahat ‘yan gagalaw na, lahat ‘yan magko-coordinate na with each other,” Austria said.

The event, which will be from August 25 to 31, is expected to boost the city’s sports tourism, he said.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will provide P15-million worth of sports equipment to the city.

Austria said the city government has an allotted budget of P140 million originally prepared for construction and preparation for the Palarong Pambansa in 2020, but the city failed in the bid to host it.

However, in partnership with the City Engineering Office (CEO), he said they are still going to use the budget in preparation for the Batang Pinoy National Finals.

He also said they will coordinate with different schools that will serve as quarters for the athletes and coaches.

Engr. Aries Grande, city assistant engineer, said their office will fast-track the construction of the venues of the different sports, including the renovation, and repair of comfort rooms for the delegates.
