In cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross and through the primary coordination of the City Traffic Management Office, the City Government of Puerto Princesa joined this year’s celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a motorcade activity from the People’s Amphitheater (Mendoza Park) to Haim Chicken Inato on Thursday, October 27 at around 11 a.m.
The said event was led by Councilor Nancy Socrates, a breast cancer survivor herself, and some of the legislator’s friends.
According to Socrates, 1 out of 13 Filipinos are at risk of having the disease, and the Philippines have the highest number of breast cancer cases in Asia. She also added that authorities are still collecting data on breast cancer cases in Puerto Princesa.
Socrates also shared that she and her colleagues are currently working to draft an ordinance to declare Breast Cancer Awareness Month as an official festivity in the city. “We are prioritizing the awareness of early detection of this disease,” she added.
