A resolution was brought up at the City Council requesting the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to provide or reinstall a public weighing scale “Timbangan ng Bayan” to public markets in Puerto Princesa City.
Councilor Peter Maristela, author of the resolution, told Palawan News in an interview this measure aims mainly to protect the local consumers.
“Dati meron ‘yan sa mga palengke, sa dalawang public market, ngayon noong na-privatize ‘yan, tinanggal ng DTI kasi privatized na nga, ang DTI naglalagay lang doon sa mga government o public markets,” said Maristela.
Maristela said this will ensure that the weight of products bought is weighed on a standard scale.
The resolution was referred to the committee on market and slaughterhouse.
He added this resolution was proposed just in time, now that the city government has already reclaimed the two public markets from the erstwhile private operators, last week of August.
