A proposed ordinance filed this week at the City Council seeks to require the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) to post a list of the recipients of quarterly allowances in public places.

Councilor Peter Maristela, author of the proposed ordinance, said the list should be posted in a conspicuous place at every barangay and also at the city hall.

“Ang purpose ay para ma-inform naman ang mga senior citizen bago magbigayan kung kasama sila sa listahan. Ganoon din ‘yong mga PWD (persons with disability) para kung hindi sila nakasama sa listahan ay makapunta agad sila sa OSCA o PDAO kasi ang niri-require doon ay every quarter ang posting, first month of every quarter,” he said.

The proposed measure said the posting of the list will be convenient for the PWDs, senior citizens, and their families to easily monitor and prove their right to receive allowances.

Maristela said that currently, recipients are merely informed through text or verbal notice.

This will also avoid possible complaints about the PWD and senior citizens who are not receiving their allowances from the city government of Puerto Princesa.

The city government gives a financial assistance of P600 for PWDs every quarter while an amount of P1,000 is given to senior citizen recipients.

Maristela said that the list of beneficiaries shall be posted at the barangay hall and at the city hall on the fifteenth day of first month of every quarter.

The proposed ordinance is referred to the committee on social welfare.
