The Provincial Board has approved a measure seeking the construction of a slaughterhouse with national and international standards to boost the revenue of local animal raisers.
In an approved resolution, Board Member Albert Rama requested Governor Jose Chaves Alvarez to cause the establishment of the slaughterhouse and for other small and large animals in compliance with Republic Act 9296 or the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
The facility should have cold storage for the purpose of marketing meat and its by-products from the province of Palawan to national and international markets.
He also mentioned that Palawan will continue to be free from Foot and Mouth Disease, African Swine Fever, and other diseases that give it a comparative advantage over other parts of the country.
Rama added that the live weight of swine often plunges below the cost of the production.
