The Sangguniang Panlalawigan is looking into the preparedness of the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Palawan (DepEd Palawan) for the upcoming reopening of face-to-face classes for the school year 2022-2023.

During their regular session on Tuesday, 3rd District Board Member Rafael Ortega Jr. sought to invite Schools Division Superintendent Roger Capa to an inquiry to discuss plans for the resumption of face-to-face classes in different schools in the province.

He particularly raised concerns about the health of children, especially their vaccination status against COVID-19 as well as the teachers.

Ortega also took note of the seeming hesitation of teachers to get vaccinated, which he said runs contrary to the DepEd’s requirements of having students vaccinated.

He said he learned about the issue while having consultations with his constituents in Aborlan town.

Another problem that needs to be addressed is vaccination, which is not mandatory, he said. This gives individuals options on whether to get vaccinated or not.
