Mr. Leo Bonbon of CBNC (standing) during the drafting of anti-dengue strategic planning

Government health officials and private companies have joined hands to launch an intensified and strategic anti-dengue campaign in Bataraza town.

The partnership is among the Palawan Provincial Health Office (PHO), Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Bataraza with the Rio Tuba Nickel Foundation, Inc. (RTNFI),  Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC), and Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC).

CBNC community relations officer Leo Andrew Bonbon said the aim of the joint partnership is to reduce dengue cases in the town by 50 percent.

In 2018, the PHO recorded 265 dengue cases in the town, which was one of the highest in the province.

Bonbon said the partnership program will focus on intensifying the awareness campaign in the municipality for residents to care about prevention which he said is “way better than being medicine dependent.”

“Fifty percent ang target namin at ang pinaka-aim namin is ma-intensify ang anti-dengue program kasi ayaw namin maging dependent sa mga gamot kasi maliban sa mahal hindi siya sustainable,” he said.

Bonbon said the draft for the awareness program is at its initial stage as this is where the responsibilities of each stakeholder is laid out and strategies are formulated.

“Sa ngayon tapos na ‘yong final draft ng dengue program ‘nong March 19 sa ComRel (Community Relations) Meeting, dito namin dini-disseminate ‘yong mga responsibilities ng mga bawat stakeholder at kung anong mga strategies ang gagawin para ma-lessen ‘yong dengue. ‘Yong local government unit (LGU) sila ang nag-mo-motivate sa mga tao para maglinis mga ganoon. Tapos ‘yong MHO information education community (IEC) campaign naman, tapos ‘yong dalawang company CBNC at RTNMC is kami ang mag-co-conduct ng program at financial assistance,” he also said.

He added that the partnership among the government and private firms will involve all local residents to implement the anti-dengue strategies.

“Nag-joint force na kami ngayon ng PHO, MHO, RTNFI, LGU, RTNMC at CBNC para sa mas positive na result at ma-involve ang lahat dati kasi ‘yong dalawang company lang ang nag-i-implement ng strategic planning. Nagpapa-contest, so ngayon pangkalahatan na,” he said.

Bonbon also said they will come up with information and education campaign materials on dengue such as a picture book so the public can understand it easily, including the children.
