The City Tourism Office (CTO) reported a 20 percent increase in tourism arrivals in Puerto Princesa City in 2018.
Michie Meneses, CTO promotions and marketing division chief, said their records showed that tourist arrivals in the city reached 1,165,000 last year compared to only one million in 2017.
She attributed the increase to the intensified national promotions and international campaigns launched by their office.
“Ito ‘yong bunga ng initiative ng ating [opisina] at based na rin sa order ni Mayor Lucilo Bayron na mas palakasin pa ang ating kampanya about Puerto Princesa,” she said.
(This is the fruit of the initiative of our office and based on the order of Mayor Lucilo Bayron to step up our campaign about Puerto Princesa.)
Meneses said Koreans topped the list of foreign guests in 2018 followed by the Chinese, Taiwanese, Americans, and British.
Direct international flights have a huge impact on the heightened tourist arrivals last year, she added.
“We expect the numbers to increase in the next few years,” she said.
