The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in MIMAROPA has endorsed the Puerto Princesa City Council to the National Awards Committee (NAC) as the region’s official entry to the nationwide search for the “Outstanding Sanggunian Highly Urbanized City.”

City councilor and majority floor leader Modesto “Jonjie” Rodriguez said Monday during their regular session that their nomination for national assessment and validation comes after winning as the “Best Performing City Council” in the highly urbanized city (HUC) category in MIMAROPA.

“Ang Sangguniang Panlungsod po ng Puerto Princesa ay nagwagi sa rehiyon bilang best performing city council, kayatayo ay magku-qualify na para sa competition para sa national search (The City Council of Puerto Princesa won in the region as best performing city council, and this is the reason why we qualified in the national search),” said Rodriguez.

He said the award was through the Local Legislative Award (LLA) Regional Awards Committee Assessment and Validation.

Rodriguez added the City Council received the good news through a memorandum dated December 20, 2018, from DILG-MIMAROPA director Florida M. Dijan.

Vice-mayor Luis Marcaida III said in an interview it is the first time the City Council was nominated in the category.

(Puerto Princesa City, particularly the City Council or Sangguniang Panlungsod, was selected to be one of the best performing city councils in the highly urbanized category. It is an honor for me as vice-mayor of Puerto Princesa and as presiding officer of the City Council. This won’t happen without the councilors who are all working hard for the city.)

Marcaida said one of the reasons of the DILG-MIMAROPA in nominating the City Council was the quality of its resolutions, ordinances, and committee reports.

Marcaida further noted it was the overall performance of the Sangguniang Panlungsod that made a huge impact.

(They saw that the City Council is managing its duties and responsibilities will that’s why we became the region’s nominee to the national search. I hope we receive this award because if they evaluate everything, we have a right to won because we are functioning well in the City Council.)

Marcaida said this nomination encourages the City Council to work harder.

He noted the DILG personnel from the national office are expected to come to the city soon to conduct further assessment and validation.
