MANILA — In celebration of the 100 years of Philippine Cinema, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) recently unveiled the “SANDAAN – Celebrating 100 Years of Philippine Cinema.”
According to PHLPost, the commemorative stamp depicts the logo of SANDAAN appearing on a stylized movie ticket, highlighting the dates 1919-2019.
The limited copies of the souvenir stamp sheet feature acclaimed director and producer Jose Nepomuceno, considered by many as the “Father of Philippine Movies.” His film “Dalagang Bukid” was the first Filipino-produced silent film, starring Atang de la Rama and Marcellano Ilagan. “Dalagang Bukid” was released on 12 September 1919.
The commemorative stamp was presented by PHLPost Business Lines Manager Maximo Sta. Maria III to FDCP Chairperson Liza-Diño Seguerra, Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Roberto Alabado III, ABS-CBN COO of Broadcast and Director Laurenti Dyogi.
The FDCP will lead the year-long celebration of the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema, which began on Sept. 12, 2019, and will culminate on Sept. 11, 2020, per Presidential Proclamation No. 622 Series of 2018.
Some 30,000 pieces of the commemorative stamp and 5,000 pieces of the limited copies of the souvenir sheet are being sold at P12.00 and P55.00, respectively.
The Stamps, Souvenir Sheets and Official First Day Covers of “100 Years of Philippine Cinema” are now available at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office, all Mega Manila Post Offices, Postal Area 4, San Pablo, Postal Area 5, Mandaue, Postal Area 7, Davao, and Postal Area 8, Cagayan de Oro.
