CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Calapan City District Jail located at Brgy. Sapul in this city.

According to Panaligan, the lot measuring 1,500 sq. meters is donated by the city government of Calapan to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

“The new Calapan City District Jail will be a two-storey facility that will accommodate 300 people. It will replace the present 40-year old city jail that is overcrowded and in poor condition,” Panaligan said.

The funding of the project will be provided by the BJMP. With Panaligan during the groundbreaking were BJMP Asst. Regional Director Jail Senior Superintendent Ma. Arlene Gillera, Jail Senior Inspector David Jambalos, Senior Jail Officer 4 Armando Mapola and Fr. Jun Bacit, SVD. (LTC/PIA-Mimaropa/Calapan).
