A Palaweño fisherman was arrested in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on January 24 for alleged illegal fishing, fisheries and aquatic resources authorities from the MIMAROPA reported.
The suspect was identified as Victorio Sordilla, 43 years old, and a resident of Sitio Silap, Barangay Algeciras, Agutaya town in northern Palawan.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in the MIMAROPA region conducted the operation with personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard San Jose Station (PCGSJS) after receiving reports of fish caught using dynamite being landed at the San Jose Fish port.
Seized from Sordilla were seven boxes of dalagang bukid (goldband/yellow tail fusilie) and talakitok (gigeye trevally).
After examination by the authorities, the samples were confirmed to have been caught using explosives.
The suspect faces criminal and administrative cases.
