Palaweño boxers on Thursday dominated the professional boxing competition against Caloocan brawlers in Busuanga town.

Jun Gandeza of Kambal Kamao Promotions said that the boxing matches were held in line with the Tarahomonan Festival, an annual festivity celebrated in the municipality.

Ridick Tablanza of Aborlan, Jahzeel Trinidad of Rizal, Jeremae Ibañez of Busuanga, and Erson Trinidad of Rizal all showed prowess in the professional categories, competing against boxers from Caloocan.

Tablanza and Trinidad sent their opponents to the canvass in less than one minute of the first round, establishing their superior athletic skills with their non-stop punches.

Ibañez and his opponent suffered major blows in the first four rounds of their match leading to a tight finish, with Ibañez emerging as the winner through a unanimous decision.

Trinidad, an undefeated boxer from Rizal, found himself in a tough spot in the early rounds of his game with the national gold medalist from Caloocan. The two exchanged heavy body shots in tight ropes that resulted in a draw.

Gandeza encouraged young Palaweño athletes to pursue boxing as a career citing the potential seen from the rising locals in competitive sports.

“Basta seryoso ka lang sa ginagawa mo sigurado makukuha mo ang dream mo, tsaka Palaweños are shining in boxing,” he said.

Eleven other amateur fights were also staged prior to the main events.

The boxing competition was held in Busuanga Municipal Gym attended by mayor Beth Cervantes, the vice mayor, and the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members. The event was set in partnership with the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) through Abraham Khalil Mitra, who was also present in the games.
