Netizens lean towards the affirmative on whether or not divorce should be legalized in the Philippines.

Palawan News on Wednesday took it to Facebook checking the public’s pulse on the controversial legislation in Congress.

Random cybersurfers were generally in favor of divorce but draw the line on the requisites of the divorce sought.

One participant in the thread noted that divorce will help an aggrieved spouse recover from a failed marriage, citing how domestic abuse affects the children.

Another cautioned that divorce should not be abused so as to “just change partners”.

It was recalled that in the 17th Congress, the House of Representatives (HOR) passed on third and final reading last March 19 the divorce bill co-authored by Pantaleon Alvarez and Edcel Lagman.

However, the bill lapsed on the Senate due to “lack of time”. The bill was re-filed on the 18th Congress and is now up for Senate hearing as it remains docketed under the HOR.
