Palawan province will host the 2018 Science Research Summit on September 28-30 in Puerto Princesa City with the theme, “Science for the People.”
The event is organized by the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System and aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by convening PSHS scholars around the country and students from Palawan.
It also intends to encourage students to explore the wonders of STEM through research and innovation.
During the summit, the PSHS scholars through an inter-competition wil present their notable researches through oral and poster presentations before a panel of judges on September 29.
Grades 10-12 students from DepEd schools in Palawan are invited as observers.
Through the presentations, the public school students will be given the chance to take a glimpse of notable technical PSHS research projects and gain valuable inputs from the judges/experts during the question and answer portion.
On September 30, a Community Fair will be opened to the public.
It is an interactive activity where students from DepEd secondary schools in Palawan will showcase their researches to the visitors.
The research posters of PSHS scholars will also be put on display during the fair. Grades 5 and 6 students are highly encouraged to visit the fair for them to have a glimpse of the different STEM researches and how these can uplift the community.
Kids can also learn from the exhibitors the basics of conducting researches and possible challenges that may be encountered along the way.
The Summit is one way of bringing science closer to the hearts of the people and in promoting science and technology which is one of the goals of the Department of Science and Technology.
The project will be conducted in close coordination with DepEd.
