The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially declared the start of the rainy season.
Sonny Pajarilla, local weather chief, said Friday that rains have already been detected in 13 PAGASA stations on the Western side of the country, an indication that the rainy season has officially started.
“Officially declared, manifested by our data gathered, na-meet na ang ating criteria. Ang ating southwest monsoon has started to blow since Tuesday actually, pero ang manifestation ng pag-ulan, thunderstorm ay majority of the stations located on the west side of the country ay na-confirm ng datos natin,” Pajarilla said.
However, unlike in April and May, the rains in June will have significant amounts, especially if there will be weather disturbances, he pointed out.
He said at least two tropical depressions are expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) for the month of June.
“Ganoon pa rin ang ating mga naranasan, uulan na ganito, aaraw, ganoon pa rin ‘yan di lang tulad noong Abril at Mayo, we have been saying that kahit wala pa ‘yong official declaration ay mag-uulan-ulan na ‘yon,” Pajarilla added.
