Joint law enforcement authorities seized some P341,000-worth of illegally cut lumber in four different anti-illegal logging activities in northern Palawan early this week.

The operations were carried out in Sitio Lingo, Barangay Sacrada, Busuanga; Sitio Talibabaan, Brgy. Bebeladan, El Nido; the sitios Stockpile and El Salvador, both in Brgy. Dumarao, Roxas; and Sitio Inalyawan, Barangay Liminangcong, Taytay.

A report obtained by Palawan News said the operations were conducted on June 9-10 in the said areas.

On Tuesday, joint law enforcement authorities conducted the operation in Busuanga and arrested a certain Hajid Alarcon. Confiscated from him was a unit of .38 pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, an undocumented chainsaw, and assorted sizes of illegally cut tree species worth P200,000.

On the same day, around 300 board feet of assorted lumber species were also seized in El Nido with an estimated P11,319 market value.

On Wednesday, operatives of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Roxas and the Marine Battalion Landing Team-3 also conducted a joint operation against reported illegal logging and large scale charcoal-making operations in Roxas.

Authorities confiscated 4,672 pieces of assorted sizes and species of illegally cut lumber and 240 sacks of charcoal, with a total estimated market value of P121,000.

On the same day, around 500 board feet of Ipil, Amugis, and Apitong were confiscated through joint operation conducted by CENRO Taytay-El Nido, 3rd Marine Company, and Coast Guard Substation Taytay in Taytay worth P9,000.

The arrested individual and confiscated items were turned over to concerned agencies for further legal disposition.

While items from Taytay and El Nido are currently in the Forest Product Monitoring Station (FPMS) II Bagong-Bayan for proper disposition.

Rodel Dorado CENRO Taytay information officer said that that Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) told Palawan News Thursday that a synchronized illegal logging operation has been conducted as part of the 33rd anniversary of the department.

“Nagkaroon nga ng synchronized operation in connection doon sa celebration ng 33rd anniversary ng DENR. But of course, hindi lang dahil sa celebration kaya nagkaroon ng apprehension kundi tuloy-tuloy ‘yan na intensified ang ating campaign against illegal activities,” he said.

Involved in the operations were the 23rd Marine Company of the MBLT-3 under the 3MBde, Municipal Police Station (MPS), and Busuanga Pasture Reserve Management Office (BPRMO).
