One parallel vision: An art show

Art on the Move, a group of Palawan local artists, culminated its month-long celebration for its third-year anniversary with an art exhibit and cultural show at the Robinsons Place Palawan Main Activity Area last September 22, 2018.

Presented in cooperation with the provincial government of Palawan, Yamang Bukid Healthy Products Inc, and Grapiko Printing and Signages, the anniversary celebration was entitled “One Parallel Vision” to signify the group’s strong commitment in strengthening the local art scene as well as the tie among the artists.

The event opened with inspiring messages from Ceasar Sammy Magbanua, chief of staff of the governor  and one of the most ardent supporters of the local art scene, and Arsenio Lizaso, president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), who flew all the way from Manila to be part of the celebration.

It was followed by cultural performances from the elders of the Tagbanua tribe from Aborlan, Palawan, depicting the their rich traditions and practices, and a live action painting performance from Art on the Move’s junior artists.

The exhibit, which is a diverse collection of artworks, was an elaborate showcase of the group’s diverse talent and creativity. It consisted of paintings of various media, rubbercut artworks, a paper cut installation, a metal sculpture, and more.

After the artworks were unveiled, the Palawan Dance Ensemble, the Provincial Capitol Choir and Acoustic Band took centerstage for an hour-long of cultural performances.

Earlier this month, the group also held an opening exhibit at SM Puerto Princesa, an art camp and mentoring activities for the budding artists of the group at the Bamboo Nest Beach, and an art workshop for the children of Brgy. Bacungan at the Yamang Bukid Farm.

Art on the Move aims to continue its advocacy to promote the local art scene, utilize art as a tool for positive change, and provide artists a venue for artistic expression as well as opportunities for both livelihood and community work. (PR)
