ODIONGAN, Romblon — Odiongan mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic expressed appreciation to the 1,250 workers of Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged (TUPAD) for their volunteerism in the fight against dengue during their 10-day contract.
In an interview, Fabic said the program is a big help for the town’s dengue prevention program.  She said the massive clean-up have sanitized the barangays, which is important in the program.
“Also, since it’s the typhoon season, our clogged canals and gutters were cleared, and this also prevented flooding”,  she added.
DOLE Field Office – Romblon said that the beneficiaries of TUPAD programs received regional minimum wage of 320 pesos per day.
According to Glory Lee Foja, Focal Person for DOLE-Romblon’s TUPAD Program, workers were tasked with sandbagging, dredging, estero cleaning and de-clogging, and street cleaning.
TUPAD is DOLE’s community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed, and seasonal workers, who will work for 10-30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.
A similar assistance was also given to 584 indigent workers in the island town of Corcuera where they were contracted for 10-15 days of work. (PJF/PIA-MIMAROPA/ROMBLON)
