EL NIDO, Palawan – The body of a Filipino man whose photo circulated on social media has been identified. The police here cited drowning as the possible cause of his death.

According to a police spot report prepared on March 24, 2020, the body of Juanito B. Ancheta, Jr., single, 52-years-old, was found by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) of El Nido at 11:30 a.m. washed ashore at Sitio Caalan, Barangay Masagana.

Ancheta, who was known by most as “Lakay,” was a construction worker and resided at Sitio Nasigdan in the same barangay. Nearby residents disclosed that Ancheta lived alone.

On March 23 at around 11 a.m., the MPS was informed by barangay councilor Avelon Garcia that Ancheta was seen lying on the top of his house, naked. MPS responded by heading to the scene, persuaded Ancheta to climb down and put on clothes.

According to his neighbors, Ancheta was suffering from “mild depression,” and seldom left his home.

Speculations are that Ancheta proceeded to the shoreline to bathe, but was carried away by a strong current that ultimately caused his demise. Ancheta had no known enemies, ruling out the possibility of foul play.

The cadaver was brought to Solivio Funeral Services and a postmortem examination was conducted by the Rural Health Unit (RHU). The cause of death has not yet been identified.
