Effective March this year, only senior high school students (SHSS) will have graduation ceremonies based on orders of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Grace Estefano, DepEd Palawan information officer, said under Department Order No.002, Series of 2019, Grade 6 and Grade 10 students will only have “Moving Up Ceremonies.”

“Completion lang talaga kasi kapag graduation ay natapos na nila ang basic education. Ang basic education ay from kinder to Grade 12 kaya ginawa na s’yang completion. Ang kinder ay moving up, completion ang Grade 6 at Grade 12,” she pointed out.

The order said students of kindergarten, Grade 6 and Grade 10 will have moving up or completion ceremony where they will receive kindergarten, elementary, and junior high school certificates.

Grade 12 schools with DepEd-approved K to 12 transition plan with permits to operate senior high school since 2014 and international schools with K to 12 programs will conduct graduation ceremonies where graduates will receive senior high school diplomas, it added.

Graduation means complete compliance of basic education program implemented from kinder to grade 12, Estefano said.

The theme for 2019 graduation ceremonies will be “Pagkakaisa sa Pagkakaiba-iba: Kalidad na Edukasyon para sa Lahat (Unity in Diversity: Quality Education for All)” to highlight the role of the K to 12 Basic Education Program in developing an educated society where the challenges and benefits of diversity are embraced and welcomed by every Filipino.

In Palawan, there are 95 schools offering K to 12 programs that will conduct their graduation ceremonies on April 1 to 5, 2019.
