The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Palawan Irrigation Management Office (IMO) will start the solar power pump project in 2020 for Barangay Isumbo, Sofronio Española as a pilot site for irrigation in the province.
NIA Palawan manager Engr. Conrado Cardenas, Jr. said Thursday during the Philippine Information Agency’s (PIA) Kapihan that their agency will start the procurement before the year ends.
“By next year meron kami sa Isumbo, ipa-pilot namin yong solar power pump, maganda yon. That is balon or deep-well powered by solar. Magpa-pilot kami sa Isumbo sa Española next year at before year end magkakaroon na kami ng procurement,” he said.
The project will spend an estimated P3.3 million for canal lining and structure, diversion works, and a single solar power pump.
Cardenas said that the agency plan to have 10 solar power pumps in the province once the pilot project gains a 90% success rate.
He said they are focusing on Isumbo, Sofronio Española to determine if the project will succeed or otherwise.
According to him, a single solar power pump could irrigate up to 10 hectares. The solar power pump will run for five years before changing its battery.
“Wala pa kami sa ibang munisipyo, pero may study na kami sa ibang munisipyo, once na maging successful siya at alam ko 90% successful yan marami na kami ipo-program. Ang target ay sampu kasi ang isang solar pump ay kaya ng 10 hectares. Hindi bababa ng 10 hectares, kung sampu makaka-100 ako,” she said.
