Six foreign nationals and one Filipino were arrested Saturday for engaging in illegal gambling in Barangay Buena Suerte, El Nido.
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Palawan executive officer Atty. Renato Garbo said in an interview Sunday the group was nabbed while conducting an illegal poker game.
The suspects were identified as Theodore Amell, an American citizen; Lee “Frank” Kyungyun, a South Korean; Fransman Elwyn, a South African; Janot Aurelien, a French national; Okdemir Adnan and Ozdenler Ahmet both Turkish citizens. Their Filipino companion has remained unidentified.
“Dahil doon sa information na natanggap natin ay nagconduct tayo ng surveillance at napagalaman natin na mayroon ngang poker game. Illegal ito kaya inaksyonan natin agad,” he said.
The suspects will undergo inquest proceedings and will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or the “Illegal Gambling Law” and Republic Act 9287 or an act increasing penalties for illegal number games amending certain provisions of PD 1602.
