The municipality of Narra capped its 50th founding anniversary on Friday with the laying of a time capsule documenting the town’s history.
Outgoing Mayor Lucena Diaz-Demaala declared their celebration “a success” and the biggest they have done to commemorate the annual event.
“Inilagay namin doon sa loob ng 50 years ang aming accomplishments at ito ay aming bubuksan after 50 years,” Demaala said.
She thanked her constituents for the participation and cooperation with all the activities and events.
“We really appreciate the participation ng ating mga kababayan at happy ako dahil, I was a part of our Golden Celebration, ng aming founding anniversary na kahit papano written in the history of Narra na kasama kami sa pagdiriwang na ito,” she said.
Sherwin Corpuz, municipal tourism officer, told Palawan News that this years celebration of the municipality’s foundation day was “the grandest.”
Narra was chartered as a component municipality of Palawan on June 21, 1969.
However, it was only in 1982 that it was freed from the control of the then Ministry of Agrarian Reform.
Corpuz said they prepared for the celebration for one month.
“So far wala namang naging problema sa preparation dahil intact naman ang team dahil nga walang Baragatan. Mga one month lang ang preparation, ” he said.
He said all the 23 barangays of the town were involved as well as the tricycle groups who have events for their respective sectors.
Performances by local bands were sponsored by the local government unit, he said, adding that this was the first time that it was held in an open field.
Corpuz added that they are anticipating another big celebration for the upcoming Palay Festival on October.
