A fast craft vessel owned by Montenegro Shipping Lines ran aground off Chindonan Island, Brgy. Libis Culion on Friday morning from Coron, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDP) spokesperson Lt. Commander Christian Jazmin said MV Tabaco was carrying around 30 passengers when it got beached at 6:00 a.m.
He said their initial investigation found out that the fast craft vessel encountered a steering wheel problem, causing it to go off course its intended route and eventually ran aground.
Jazmin said MV Tabaco was towed back to Coron pier by MV Masbate at around 11:30 a.m.
Coast Guard personnel in the area, Rescue 165, and speed boat Maria Virginia also conducted a rescue operation.
“Nag-deploy din sila [Montenegro] ng isa pang fast craft, ‘yong MV Masbate para mag-conduct ng search and rescue operation then immediately at around 7:20 a.m. our station in Coron directed the station in Culion to organize a search and rescue team. Then ang MV Masbate ay tino-tow itong MV Tobacco,” he said.
He said all passengers were properly transferred to rescue vessels and are all in good condition.
“May mga buntis, mga matatanda but they are all in good condition,”Jazmin said.
