Board member Maria Angela Sabando has urged local government units in Palawan to provide free visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) tests for the early detection of cervical cancer.
Sabando said VIA is a popular screening test method because it is simple and inexpensive.
“Through seminar, we learned the benefit of visual inspection using acetic acid.
Sabando said that this test is also more convenient than pap smear cytology which is also used for cervical cancer screening.
“Ang pap smear kasi will take three days to one week na walang contact pero sa VIA anytime ay puwede ito, convenient lalo na kung mayron po tayong partner,” Sabando said.
She said that the apparatus needed for testing is also inexpensive.
Mura lang naman ang alam ko kasi walang masydaong kailangan, just cotton to swab, apparatus to open your cervix,” she said.
