The Korean Embassy recently conducted its own security assessment of Honda Bay, a major Korean tourism destination and site of a terrorist kidnapping attack in 2001.

P/Lt. Dandy Ferriol, spokesperson of 2nd Special Operations Unit-Maritime Group (2nd SOU-MG) said that four Korean delegates visited the city to re-evaluate and assess security situation for the safety of Korean tourists, Thursday.

The delegates were Sec. Daniel Lee, Sec. Myungjin Kim, Consul Subok Lee, and Lt. Col. Han Dongyun.

Ferriol said that the delegates chose Dos Palmas to assess if the incident that transpired way back 2001 could happen again.

“Na-assess naman nila na okay ang security sa Dos Palmas nakita naman nila na may tropa doon ng PNP Maritime at may security naman na pinrovide doon so all in all base sa kanilang assessment peaceful naman ang province ng Palawan at City of Puerto Princesa na maraming tourists destination,” he said.

Ferriol also said that there are no records of Korean involvement in an incident in the city and the whole province. In addition, he said that based on the date they have gathered, Korean nationals topped the list of foreign tourists visiting Palawan.
