Kalayaan town remains unaffected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), but local authorities based in Puerto Princesa City said they have been implementing the health protocol guidelines issued by the national government.

Mayor Roberto Del Mundo said the island, which is the least populated municipality in the country, has also adopted the guidelines and protocols from the national government for the implementation of an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

He said that while they have not been affected by COVID-19, they have imposed a strict prohibition on the entry of marine vessels to avoid the possible spread of the virus.

He also said they have prepared relief goods for the town as a precaution.

The Kalayaan municipality sits inside the West Philippine Sea (WPS) which is also being claimed by China.
