The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bantay Dagat joined forces to arrest 11 crew members of two motorboats for illegally fishing using air compressors in the waters off Barangay Osmeña, Araceli on September 9.

According to a statement released by the PCG, their presence was reported by a concerned citizen. Following verification, they apprehended five MBca Andro fishermen and six MBca Ferlyn fishermen.

The fishermen were taken to the PCG Substation Araceli, where their profiles were taken and their illicit fishing gears were documented. The air compressors and other fishing paraphernalia were valued at P53,000.

The PCG said they were fined for violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 42, series of 1996 before they were released. Their motorboats and confiscated items were turned over to the local government of Araceli.
