Some 200 inmates of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) cleared a random test for human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) conducted Tuesday by Project H4 Palawan Inc.

Iwahig penal farm spokesperson and corrections technical officer II Levi Evangelista said all of them were randomly selected from their medium-security prison.

“Ito ay napakagandang [partisipasyon nila] na bagama’t sila ay bilanggo, sinisikap natin at sinisiguro na sila ay ligtas sa ano mang sakit at malusog ang pangangatawan,” Evangelista said.

He added that submitting the inmates to the testing is also for their relationships and their future.

Evangelista said that the penal farm’s active participation in Project H4 is part of their goal to also cover the screening of more than 3,000 Iwahig inmates.

Project H4 is a non-government organization advocating the reduction of AIDS cases in the province through information dissemination and the conduct of HIV screenings.
