The Western Command (WESCOM) welcomed Friday incumbent Joint Task Force Malampaya (JTFM) commander Brigadier General Lauro N. Tianchon as its new deputy commander.
Tianchon, who was promoted recently to brigadier general of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), replaced Commodore Dorvin Jose L. Legaspi of the Philippine Navy (PN) in a change of office ceremony presided by WESCOM commander Vice Admiral Rene V. Medina.
A statement released by the WESCOM Public Affair’s Office (PAO) said Medina recognized “the efforts and remarkable contributions of Legaspi as deputy commander” and acknowledged his “professionalism and sincere commitment” to Palawan.

“We will be letting go of one competent officer today but we need not fret since someone as competent as our outgoing deputy commander will immediately assume the position. I am certain that Brig. Gen. Tianchon will bring along with him in this new endeavor, his excellent skills, competence, and vast experience as he assumes the responsibilities as deputy commander of WESCOM, said Medina.
Legaspi served the WESCOM as deputy commander for nearly two years and as acting commander for 70 days.
In his speech, Legaspi expressed his deep gratitude for the full support he was given by the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees of WESCOM.
The change of office ceremony between Tianchon and Legaspi was also witnessed by representatives from the Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) and other government and non-government agencies and organizations.
