ICEMCO offers to operate PSU floating resto, firefly watching tour

ICEMCO proposes to operate the floating restaurant and the firefly watching tour in the main campus of PSU.

The Iwahig Community Eco-Tourism Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ICEMCO) is proposing to operate the floating restaurant and the firefly watching tour in the main campus of the Palawan State University (PSU).

Coop chairman Manuel Socrates said they have already submitted their proposal to the College of Hospitality Management and Tourism (CHMT) to operate the two community-based tourism projects for the university hostel in the Puerto Princesa Bay area.

He said they are also waiting to discuss it with PSU president Dr. Ramon Docto.

“Gusto sana namin na ‘yong floating restaurant ng Palawan State University ay kami na sana ang mag-o-operate, babayaran namin. Iyon ang gagamitin namin para makapag-start kami ulit ng bagong business,” he said.

Socrates said that they already conducted a survey in the area and found out that the mangrove area near the hostel is suitable for a firefly watching tour.

As of now, he said ICEMCO is working with the local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to get a permit to operate the area.

Socrates explained that they will transport the guests to the floating restaurant for meals and before proceeding to the firefly watching tour.

The spot is ideal for sunset dinners and has a great view of the bay, he said.

“Ang plano namin ay magkakaroon pa rin kami ng firefly watching, nakapag-survey na rin kami, nilalakad na lang namin ‘yong permit namin sa DENR para kami ay magkaroon ng right na gamitin ang area,” he said.
