Government will try lime to make Palawan farmlands productive

The provincial government said it will pilot test a plan to fertilize Palawan’s acidic soil using agri-lime to improve its quality for agricultural production.

Governor Jose C. Alvarez, during a dialogue with farmers in Narra held by agriculture secretary Emmanuel Piñol this week, said he wants the project pilot tested in Quezon and Narra towns.

Governor Alvarez said there are studies showing there are areas in the province whose farmlands are already acidic.

Alvarez added they have processed dehydrated lime which can be used for fertilizing the land to restore its productive capacity.

He also said that farmers need not worry about any financial obligation.

Alvarez said.

He told farmers that he will also seek technical assistance from the Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM) and Department of Agriculture regarding the matter.
