The Palawan Provincial Board (PB) approved this week a resolution that urges local government units (LGUs) and other offices to provide jobs to persons with disabilities in compliance with the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability Act.
Board member David Francis Ponce de Leon, the author of the measure, said under the magna carta, one percent of the workforce in the LGUs and other government offices should be for the PWDs.
He said the law further states that the PWDs should get equal employment opportunities and benefits may they also be private corporations and institutions.
“Ang mga PWDs ay nararapat din mabigyan ng terms and conditions sa trabaho, pribilehiyo, benepisyo, insentibo, o allowances na pareho sa mga taong walang kapansanan,” he said.
The approved resolution further said complying the Act will help remove societal, cultural, business, environmental, and attitudinal hindrances that put pressure in the way the PWDs live their lives.
It also states that the LGUs should help integrate them well in the society as it is their obligation to protect the welfare of the persons with disabilities. (PR)
