A former New People’s Army (NPA) female fighter has given birth to a baby boy in a military hospital in Puerto Princesa.
Ka Hanna, a former rebel amazon, gave birth at Camp General Artemio Ricarte Station Hospital (CGARSH) inside the Western Command (WESCOM) on June 3.
Capt. Orchie Bobis, spokesperson of the 3rd Marine Brigade (3MBde), said she gave birth through caesarian surgery and was handled by military nurses and doctors.
“The delivery was through caesarian operation and was handled by the military doctors and nurses. We just contacted a civilian anesthesiologist to assist our military team kasi wala pa tayong anesthesiologist dito sa WESCOM,” Bobis said.
Ka Hannah was among several others who surrendered to government troops in November 2019. Bobis said she was already pregnant when she ceased resistance and was flagged as “high-risk pregnancy” due to urinary tract infection (UTI).
Brig. Gen. Nestor Herico, 3MBde commander, said Ka Hannah was taken cared of by the Marines during her pregnancy.
“Yong mga Marines natin hands-on sila sa pag-aalaga sa kanya. Hindi sila tumigil na alalayan si Ka Hannah dahil high-risk pregnancy siya at mahirap na hindi nache-check ang kalagayan niya regularly ng mga military doctor. Alaga siya sa check-up to make sure na okay siya at ang baby,” he said.
“Nandyan din lagi ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at ang Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) na madaling lapitan para sa financial assistance and cash for work ni Ka Hannah,” Herico added.
Herico said government troops in Palawan are open to accepting any NPA member who wishes to return to the folds of the law.
Ka Hannah said the 3MBde ensured her and her baby’s healthcare.
“Kulang yong salitang salamat sa lahat ng tulong na ibinigay sa amin ng Marines, ng Palawan Provincial Task Force ELCAC, ng DSWD, at PSWDO. Simula sa pagbubuntis ko hanggang sa manganak ako, nandiyan ang gobyerno na umaalalay sa akin at sa partner ko,” she said.
Her partner, Ka Troy, was also with her when she delivered her baby.
