Over 20 former drug users in Sitio Marabon, Barangay Bancalaan in the municipality of Balabac received free medical and dental checkups on Tuesday as part of the provincial government’s Community Enhancement and Livelihood Program (CELP).
The CELP seeks to help drug surrenderees integrate securely into society and avoid relapsing into their previous addictions by providing support and training.
Officers from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) spoke to the participants on family planning, household management, and the harmful consequences of violence against women and children.
According to a news release from the Provincial Information Office (PIO), 24 PWUDs or persons who used drugs got medical examinations and six received dental checkups from medical practitioners.
Dr. Perseverando Tangug, the Narra Municipal Hospital’s head of hospital, was also on hand to help the PSWDO.
“Ang tulong medikal na nabanggit ay naipaabot din ng libre sa iba pang mamamayan ng nasabing barangay. Dagdag pa dito, nagbigay din ang grupo ng kaalaman sa mga PWUDs patungkol sa healthy lifestyle at diet,” the presser stated.
The drug surrenderees in Sitio Marabon are also part of another initiative called the Community Based Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP).
