Thirty-five fisherfolks in Puerto Princesa City have benefited from the P240,000-worth of fishing gears and boat engines donated by the Catholic Youth Movement (CYM) on Saturday.
Efrel Piñero of CYM told Palawan News on Sunday that the fund for this gift-giving project was sourced from the proceeds of their two-day benefit-concert organized on May 17 to 18.
“It is mainly po talaga [for] pure service. Somehow makapag-touch ng buhay ng ibang tao through our gifts,” Piñero said.
He said that the beneficiaries came from the seven coastal barangays of Matahimik, Bagong Silang, Liwanag, Pagkakaisa, San Isidro, Bagong Sikat, and Bancao-Bancao.
She added that CYM volunteers personally validated the situation of the fisherfolk in each barangay to ensure that the gears and engines are given to those who really need it.
The CYM also conducted a training for the fisherfolk on Saturday with a resource speaker from the provincial government.
Piñero said that while they were only expecting to cater to 25 beneficiaries, they expanded it to 35 beneficiaries.
