Fire destroyed some 20 classrooms at the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) building of the Western Philippines University (WPU) campus in Puerto Princesa City early Wednesday morning.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) chief investigation officer FO3 Rodmark Anticano said they are still investigating the cause of the fire and estimating the extent of the damage.
“Sa ngayon hindi pa matukoy ang dahilan pero sa second floor ng building nag-simula based on initial investigation. Wala pa rin tayong total cost of damage pero estimated more than a million po ‘yan kasi titingnan pa natin, around 20 classrooms ata ito,” he said.
The fire was put out at around 6:30 in the morning.
According to the report, the building was constructed in the 1980s as a dormitory and eventually converted into classrooms.
Meanwhile, School officials said the affected students will temporarily hold their regular classes at the campus gymnasium.
