A fire tore through a semi-concrete two-storey boarding house late Monday night in Barangay San Pedro.
Fire control services rushed to the fire at Romasanta Street, which broke out around 8:30 p.m.
Antonio Jesus Romasanta III, son of house owner city water district general manager Antonio Jesus Romasanta Jr., said they did not know how the fire started.
“Pagtakbo namin dito, malaki na ‘yong apoy, mga five minutes lang din, mabilis ‘yong pagresponde nila. Kay mama ito (bahay), isa lang ang [nakatira], sa kabila hindi ko alam baka mga apat. Nakita na lang [namin] biglang may nag-spark sa labas,” he said.
“Ikinagulat namin, grabeng takbo ko, akala ko nandyan si mama. Refrigerator lang naman yong kay mama dyan, washing [machine] lang, yong TV nalabas naman,” Romasanta III added.
Romasanta Jr., said he was told that the fire started at the third door of the boarding house.

“Hindi ko alam, dyan daw nagsimula sa pangatlong pinto, nag-spark na lang. Hindi ko rin alam kung papaano, at least walang nadisgrasya. Salamat sa fire department at buti naka-support yong aming kaunting tubig,” he said.
“Bale dalawang pinto ang nakuha, papagiba ko na lang siguro yong dalawang pinto na ‘yon,” Romasanta Jr. added.
Three fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the city and some city water district lorry trucks helped to contain the fire.
Nilo Caabay, Jr., city fire chief inspector, said that the fire incident was informed to them around 8:40 p.m.
He said that it was only the second floor of the boarding house that was damaged by the fire.
“Every time na may sunog, lagi natin kinokonsidera yong dalawang anggulo. Either intentional or accidental, kapag nagsimula na yong investigation natin, depende sa available witnesses, evidences saka tayo magkakaroon ng process of elimination kung iyan ay intentional o accidental,” he said.
“Ngayong June parang first time pa lang, hindi ko alam kung pang-first time na structural. May mga reported naman katulad kaninang hapon pero yon ay false alarm. Wala lang akong data kung pang-ilan na ito ngayong June, so far mababa ang ating fire incent ngayong buwan na ito,” Caabay added.
