CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – In line with the 69th Founding Anniversary of Oriental Mindoro, the Fiesta ‘MAHALTA NA’ was formally opened this morning to start a weeklong celebration of the province’s anniversary on Nov. 15.

This is the annual celebration of the founding anniversary of Oriental Mindoro. ‘MAHALTA NA’ refers to the four important icons of the island, namely: MAngyan, HALcon, TAmaraw and NAujan Lake.

Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor emphasized in his statement to Mindoreños to uphold the icons of the province by including Naujan Lake as it plays a crucial role in the province. Naujan Lake National Park is the fifth largest lake in the country.

As part of the celebration of ‘MAHALTA NA’, the following are the major activities prepared by the Provincial Government: November 11 is devoted to Fiesta ‘MAHALTA NA’ Opening Salvo which includes Institutional Flag Raising Ceremony; Launching of Rabies-free Province and Search for Safest, Cleanest ang Greenest LGUs; Ribbon-cutting/Opening of “Atin ‘to: Oriental Mindoro Product Expo”; Inauguration of new Capitol Square Offices; Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing for Illegal Recruitment-free LGUs; Awarding of Outstanding Police Officers; and Miss Oriental Mindoro Pageant Night.

November 12 is Pasiklaban: Araw ng Manggagawang Dakila where the following activities are lined up: Oriental Mindoro Blood Council (OMBC) Recognition Day; Traditional Games/Fun Games at Bulwagang Panlalawigan; Bulwagang Panlalawigan Hatawan 2019; and LGU Night at Bulwagang Panlalawigan.

November 13 is the third day of the activity which is titled ‘Mano Po: Araw ng Pagkilala sa mga Kababaihan at Nakatatanda’. The following are the activities to do: Senior Citizens and Women’s Day Celebration; and Larong OrMin: Basketball Exhibition Games. This will be participated in by college students from selected schools and the invited celebrities of the provincial government.

November 14 is dubbed as ‘K-Avenue: Araw ng Galing ng Kabataang Mindoreño’. Activities for the day are as follows: Oriental Mindoro Quiz Bowl; Students’ Activity on Disaster Preparedness; Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED); Students’ Exposition on Tourism; Teachers’ Awarding Activities; and Into the Beat: Indak OPM.

Last day of the celebration is titled Fiesta ‘MAHALTA NA’: The Oriental Mindoro Founding Anniversary 2019. Activities on the last day are the following: Misa ng Sambayanan; Anniversary Program; Parada ng Sambayanan; The Festival Showcase at OMNHS Grandstand; Pasasalamat sa Galing at Serbisyo ng mga Mindoreño; and the Grand Fireworks Display.

Moreover, Governor Dolor said all major activities will be conducted within the premises of the Provincial Capitol. Today, booths of LGUs (14 municipalities and one city) are located along the parking area of the provincial capitol grounds where locally produced products are available for sale. This is open to public starting today until Friday, Nov. 15.

Other government agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT) have also their own respective booth displaying their products for the public. (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
