Palaweño farmers will receive 47 bags of certified seeds from the Department of Agriculture (DA) as part of their non-monetary incentives for selling palay bags to the National Food Authority (NFA) during the last quarter of the year.
Nerilyn Conde, NFA assistant general manager said that 39 bags of seeds intended for the mainland have already been delivered to their Narra warehouse on Thursday.
“Nag-advice na ako sa Rizal, na-deliver na sa Narra warehouse ‘yong 39 bags of certified seeds na for distribution sa Puerto, Narra, Rizal and Brooke’s Point. Sa Coron, ni-request ko sa ating DA coordinator na sila na ang mag-send sa Coron,” she said.
Under the program, farmers will receive a bag of certified seeds for every 80 bags of rice a farmer will sell to the agency while cooperatives who sell a minimum of 15,000 sacks of rice will get a water pump with an engine.
Conde added that 39 bags are going to be distributed to the municipalities of Narra, Rizal, Brooke’s Point, and Puerto Princesa. Coron town will receive eight bags of certified seeds.
NFA Palawan will coordinate with the local DA office to see the impact of the non-monetary incentive to the rice supply of the agency.
The non-monetary incentive program was implemented until December 31 last year but Conde pointed out that the DA is studying the possibility to continue it this year.
In October 2018, the incentive was implemented after NFA regional office released a memorandum providing non-monetary incentives to farmers who will sell their palay harvests to the NFA.
