EL NIDO, Palawan — This town is the third in the province so far that has announced the suspension of its local fiesta and other major events, as part of local government units’ response to the growing threat of COVID-19 virus.
Following similar moves by the towns of San Vicente and Narra, El Nido Mayor Edna Gacot-Lim said they will be suspending the celebration to the town’s 104th Founding Anniversary.
Lim issued the directive under Memorandum Order No. 20-051 dated March 11,2020.
Covered by the suspension was the pageant coronation event for Mrs. El Nido 2020 and Ms. El Nido Ambassadress 2020.
Also suspended were the “Adlao y manig oma ig manig pangisda” which was scheduled for March 11, 2020, the Women’s Day festivities including a Women’s Night, a Walk for a Cause, Fire Olympics of Bureau of Fire Protection, the El Nido Singing Idol 2020 and Dance Competition, Mass Demonstration, Street Dancing competition, and the Local Government Unit Night.
Joey Odtohan, Managing Director of Joeyganda Productions and overseeing the holding of the local pageant expressed disappointment in its postponement.
“We have prepared everything already and payments were already given. Malaki na po ang ginastos natin dito ,“ Odtohan said.
