Coast Guard authorities have launched a search and rescue operation to find eight residents from the island municipalities of Linapacan and Cuyo who went reported missing at sea during the height of tropical storm Basyang.
Petty Officer 3 Adrian Rogel of the public affairs office of the Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDP) said their search and rescue (SAR) personnel in both towns are looking for three fishermen who were reported missing on February 12 and five individuals reported on February 13.
Rogel identified the three fishermen as Richard Hamura, Rodrigo Tabi, and Noel Adtuon — all residents of Barangay San Carlos, Cuyo. They went missing while en route to do fishing near Imalaguan Island.
“Hanggang ngayon wala pa silang (Coast Guard Substation Cuyo) balita doon sa mga nawawala,” he said.
The missing residents of Linapacan were identified as Rhea Gugma, Alma Joy Gugma, Jocel Alulod, John Revin Gugma, and the boat captain, whose name was not immediately available.
They went missing after boarding the motorboat “Welmer” to sail to Sitio Inapupan, Barangay San Manuel. They are residents of Barangay Nangalao, Linapacan.
“Hanggang ngayon sila ay hindi pa nakakarating doon sa destinasyon nila,” he said.
