Graduation and recognition rites should not be a venue for the candidates’ political agenda for the May 2019 national and local midterm elections.

Grace Estefano, information officer of the Department of Education (DepEd), said graduation events are not allowed to become venues for the political interests of the candidates even if it is not yet election period.

“Adherence to DepEd order na… graduation and recognition rites will not be a venue for political agenda…for political forum kahit wala pang election,” Estefano said.

She pointed out that the graduation and recognition rites must remain solemn and meaningful.

Officials, teaching, and non-teaching personnel of the department are also advised to avoid getting involved in partisan election activities, she also said.

“It will be solemn, meaningful at kung ano talaga yong rites, iyon talaga ang susundin. Pangalawa, meron naman tayong DepEd order na reiterating na employees will not be involved…,” Estefano said.
