The low-pressure area (LPA) has developed into tropical depression “Dodong” as of 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA was seen east of Aparri, Cagayan and named “Dodong”, the fourth storm in the country for 2019.

“Kaninang alas dos ng hapon, ang ating mino-monitor na low-pressure area ay ganap ng naging isang bagyo at binigyan natin ng pangalang bagyong Dodong. Kaninang alas kwatro, ang sentro ni Dodong ay nasa 615 kilomteres, east, northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 615 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan,”Ariel Rojas, weather specialist.

Dodong has winds reaching 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of 60 kph.

The tropical depression is moving towards the northeast with the speed of 25 kph and it has no direct effect in the weather of the country.

Dodong is expected to reach the border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in 24 hours.

“Hindi nakikitang tatama sa anumang kalupaan itong si tropical depression Dodong. In 24 hours ito ay nandyan na sa border ng Philippine Area of Responsibility or 715 kilometers east, northeast ng Basco, Batanes, after a few hours ay nakalabas na ‘yon ng PAR and in 48 hours, si Dodong ay nandyan na sa southern part ng Japan,” he added.

Eastern and Central Visayas, including the province of Palawan, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains, thunderstorms, and lightning.
