EL NIDO, Palawan – Mayor Edna Gacot-Lim has signed a resolution granting 50 percent billing discount on all residential and commercial members of the El Nido Water and Sanitation System (ENWSS).
Several Sangguniang Bayan members initiated the call to give ENWSS members discounts for water bills incurred during March and April. During these months, El Nido was under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), and all establishments except essential services were made to close.
Now under general community quarantine (GCQ) since April 16, the town has resumed some commercial activity with social distancing measures in place.
“Nanawagan ang Sangguniang Bayan na bigyan ng discount ang mga members para hindi sila mabigatan sa mg babayarin dahil sa kawalan ng kita noong ECQ,” said Rene Acosta, MEEDO chief.
The ENWSS is managed by the Municipal Economic Enterprise and Development Office (MEEDO), a self-sustaining agency that oversees the development of the town’s water system. So far, only the four población barangays – Masagana, Maligaya, Buena Suerte, and Corong-Corong, – are connected to the ENWSS.
Bill collection for the ENWSS was suspended for the months of March and April and resumed collections on May 16. The discount only applies to bills incurred during the months of March and April. Nearly 600 households are members of the ENWSS.
