QUEZON CITY —The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through its attached bureau, the Mines and Geosciences (MGB), launched a nationwide information campaign on responsible mining at Elements, Eton Centris, Quezon City on November 8.
True to its mandate of regulating the country’s mining industry and provide geoscience information, MGB kicked off this information campaign dubbed as #MineResponsibility that will promote a more balanced and scientific way of mining.
“It is important that the public is informed and involved in the enforcement of mining policies and environmental protection,” MGB Director Wilfredo Moncano said.
The information drive encourages responsibility among its stakeholders, mining firms, other government agencies, as well as the Filipino people. Responsible mining talks about temporary use of the land area to get valuable materials that can help in the progress and economic growth and rehabilitating the land mined areas afterward. This inclusive approach ensures the mining industry’s commitment to the protection of people and the environment.
Meanwhile, DENR Undersecretary for Climate Change and Mining Concerns Analiza Rebuelta-Teh applauded the efforts of MGB in creatively communicating with the public’s concerns on mining.
“It cannot be business as usual. We have to level up in coming up meaningful campaigns that will better communicate concerns of the public regarding mining,” Teh stated.
To support the said campaign, various audiovisual presentations were also launched during the event. (KSBA | PIA-Central)
