Farmers from Barangay Buliluyan, Bataraza underwent a pre-registration seminar on cooperatives on August 15, 2017 facilitated by the Cooperative Development Authority – Palawan.
The participants included Buliluyan farmers who are currently engaged in the ginger production along with eight organizations in partnership with Vegetable Importer Exporter and Vendor’s Association (VIEVA). These were initially funded by Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation through their Social Development & Management Program.
“Itong seminar ay isang malaking simulain o hakbang upang magkaroon ng isang malakas at magandang samahan”, Rebuan ‘Anggay’ Jackia, a Barangay Council official of Buliluyan, said.
The PRS seminar was given by Romalisa “Babes” Patacsil, cooperative development specialist of CDA and assisted by Emma San Jose, community development assistant of municipal cooperative development office – Bataraza extension.
The PRS seminar is a mandatory requirement and is a pre-requisite in registering a cooperative based on R.A 9520 or the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008.
Patacsil underscored the government’s efforts to help and empower potential micro-cooperatives in the country as a way to establish independent and empowered communities through cooperativism.
The seminar was also attended by community relations personnel of Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation led by Reynaldo ‘Bong’ Dela Rosa, community relations manager.
Dela Rosa said the company’s efforts to promote and empower people’s organizations in the form of cooperatives or association will help establish viable communities beyond the termination of mining activities.
Barangay Buliluyan is Palawan’s mainland southernmost village.
